Adult learners

For many adult learners who come to us, Dore feels like a last resort. These people have already had to live a lifetime, coping with the challenges of their particular learning difficulty and this can leave them feeling frustrated, exhausted and sometimes depressed.

We are here to help

With Dore’s help, there are plenty of reasons to be cheerful. First of all, it’s good to be clear that difficulties with learning are not a reflection of individual intelligence, talent or potential. In fact, many famous people from history as well as modern day celebrities that we look up to have struggled with learning difficulties. Names include Tom Cruise, Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightly, Richard Branson, John Lennon and even Albert Einstein and Leonardo Da Vinci!

Coping Strategies

The Dore Programme works for people of all ages from 7-70. (Actually our oldest client was 83, but 70 sounds catchier). The small difference between adults and children is that often adults have developed coping strategies throughout their lives to avoid doing things that they find difficult. That might be things like avoiding reading and writing tasks, which might even affect the job you’ve chosen, or making lists all the time if your organisational skills are a bit rubbish.

So in addition to doing the exercises twice a day, we encourage our adult learners to make a special effort to break old habits and practise the things that they’ve struggled with in the past.

One thing to remember is that you are not alone. About one in six people experience learning difficulties – so it’s much more common than you might think. Now Dore is on hand to give you the help and support you need.
